To me, New York City has always felt a little bit like a time travel machine. If you look closely, you can easily see the many different decades and centuries of this city’s rich and varied life. And if you are lucky, and you happen to step onto the right street corner and the light is just so, you will be transported forward or backward in time. The past is alway linked to the future here, but you can’t get too mired down in what was because something is always hurrying you forward. The city seems at once ancient and very, very young. Endless throngs of people, countless buildings, the changing cast of the light as the seasons shift, each neighborhood a little world unto itself. New York City; where nothing ever stands still, and everything is always changing. A million stories unfold everyday in New York, and you may interpret your glimpse of one story in a totally different way than the person next to you would. With these photos, I hope to catch a little of this feeling of time warp, of the millions of separate but always intertwining stories of New York and New Yorkers, past, present and future. I hope that as you look at them, you might be able to a do a little time travel and feel a little of that deja vu too.
