Tomaquag Museum is the only museum in Rhode Island that tells the story of the Indigenous people of this state from a first person perspective. Our mission is to educate the public, promoting thoughtful dialogue around Indigenous history, culture, arts, Mother Earth, and contemporary Native issues. We strive to be an Indigenous Cultural Education organization offering experiences that transform people’s lives by broadening their perspectives, attitudes, and knowledge of Indigenous Cultures and the interrelationship with the wider world. Tomaquag Museum offers tours, workshops, programs and lectures for all ages; Cultural Arts and Wellness programing to the local tribal communities; And student internships and Job Corp work experience. Thanks to a grant by Third Sector New England, Tomaquag Museum has created the Indigenous Empowerment Network (IEN) dedicated to rooting out poverty in Native American Communities. The IEN brings together partners from all over Southern New England to create opportunities for Native Americans to become more employable through education and apprenticeship opportunities. Tomaquag Museum is a 2016 Recipient of the National Medal for Museum and Library Services. This is the nation’s highest honor given to museums and libraries for service to the community. For 22 years, the award has celebrated institutions that respond to societal needs in innovative ways, making a difference for individuals, families, and their communities. Tomaquag is honored to have been chosen for this exceptional award. Your purchase can help us continue to impact the Southern New England community!
