I think my first formal intro to stoicism was via Ryan Holiday and Tim Ferris, yet I think I already 'knew' much of the underlying philosophy as I believe we all do, it's just been relatively dormant, until one way or another we are 'awakened' to the great insights of stoics such as Zeno, Marcus Aurelius, Seneca and Epictetus which can teach us so much about the benefits of leading a good and virtuous life. They knew the fact that we experience life by the quality of our thoughts and not via our external circumstance. They understood the wisdom behind self responsibility and discerning what was in our control and what was not...and what was out of control, let it go to the fates. They lived by the mantra of Amor fati - love everything as if we wished it upon ourselves as it is not the event itself, no matter how great or henious that defines us but how we view it, our attitude to everything is the one true choice we have in all things that come our way. .
