Born in Newark, New Jersey, Michael Louis Robinson graduated from the Newark School of Fine and Industrial Art, where he received an award for Artistic Excellence. He is a lifetime member of the Arts Students League of New York, from which he received scholarships for both drawing and painting. He also attended the New York Academy of Art, Graduate School of Figurative Art for a study of 17th Century Northern European Paintings. In 1999-2001 Michael was granted Artist-in-Residence at the Myhelan Cultural Arts Center in Long Valley, NJ. 2004-2006 he was Artist-in-Residence at Purnell School in Pottersville, NJ.
