Jed Williams was born in Philadelphia, USA, in 1975 and raised in Paris, France; he is a French and American citizen and now lives in Philadelphia, USA. He graduated from the University of the Arts (BFA in Painting and Drawing, 2000) and the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (Certificate in Painting, 2005), both located in Philadelphia. Jed works on his images in different kinds of media: oil paint, acrylic, mixed media. His art is a mysterious yet heartfelt exploration. In a quirky, ever-shifting web of associations, elements denoting the human figure and face swirl and dance around various cultural symbols and images. These whimsical touchstones of meaning balance out a joyful, abstract exploration of color, line and mark-making. Jed’s most prominent sources of inspiration are the human figure, pop and mythological culture, eastern religion, and the quest for inner and outer peace. In the course of his art-process, he seeks to simultaneously transcend and reconstitute the intense emotions, obsessions and images encountered in life.
