Hough Foundation partners with philanthropic, business, civic, academic, and faith entities to provide Hough Elementary students, their families and the Hough Community the best opportunities for scholastic, physical, and social growth. We provide early access to the tools needed for a healthy community that lays the groundwork for improving the lives of children and families. A healthy community is created one neighborhood and one school at a time. The Hough Foundation provides a model for how strengthening partnerships can benefit children and families today and into the future. What We Do Hough Foundation was established in 1992 by Vancouver businessman and former Hough student, Paul Christensen, to provide support to programs and projects that would enhance the Hough Neighborhood and Hough Elementary School. A full-time Director manages the Family Service Center at Hough Elementary School. The Director connects with highly qualified volunteers to assist in classrooms, projects as needed by staff, helping with Hough Foundation events, in the after school enrichment programs and as Lunch Buddies. The Family Service Center also provides a Clothes Closet (clothing, coats and shoes) for children in need of warm, appropriate clothes as well as facilitating the Back PackSnack program and providing addition food as needed by families to meet their needs. Thousands of children have received clothing, school supplies and food through the Family Service Center. Over the years, thousands of children have benefitted from the Hough Music programs which include both Choir, Glee and Escola de Samba (Brazilian-style drumming). More than half of Hough Elementary students receive direct services from the Family Service Center each year. Approximately 350 registered volunteers spend over 10,000 hours each year helping students in the classroom, assisting teachers and staff, participating in fundraisers and providing critical resources to Hough Foundation’s programs.
