In the Easter week of 1916 hundreds of brave men and women stood up to the might of the British Empire in a bid to declare independence - many died, and the leaders were executed after the inevitable surrender. One hundred years later, in 2016, Ireland salutes these teachers, nurses, bakers, actresses, silk weavers, grocers, human rights and women's rights activists, among many others. These pictures are in honour of those men and women. Declan Kerr is an Irish-born artist, growing up in London and New York City, now back in Ireland. He has exhibited in Ireland and the U.K and his work has toured the US as part of a conference tour sponsored by Trinitry College, Dublin. He will be in New York in December, 2016.
