I was born in South Central Kansas and developed a love for the outdoors on family vacations. I earned a biology degree from Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kansas in 1984. During my college summers I started to work for the National Park Service as a seasonal ranger. I spent two summers at Alibates Flint Quarries National Monument (1983-84) in the Texas Panhandle. I enrolled at Texas Tech University as a graduate student in biology and museum curation the fall of 1984. I took a semester off and spent 2 months at Southwestern Community College in Sylva, North Carolina at "cop camp". Actually, it was seasonal law enforcement training for the National Park Service. After completion I took a law enforcement ranger job at Lake Meredith National Recreation Area, north of Amarillo, Texas. I spent two seasons as a boat patrol ranger at Meredith. I graduated from TTU with a M.A. degree December of 1987. During the summers I worked as a law enforcement ranger at Devils Tower National Monument (1987), Glen Canyon National Recreation Area - Bullfrog (1988), Yellowstone National Park - Grant Village, Madison/West (Fall 1988), and finally at Old Faithful (1989). I met my future husband, Steve, while working at Devils Tower in 1987. We were married at Madison Junction (Yellowstone National Park) in June of 1990. After spending a cold and long winter in West Yellowstone, Montana, we decided to move to New Mexico. We have lived in Albuquerque, Farmington, Cimarron, and now Rio Rancho. We have two teen boys and they are active in team gymnastics - Level 10.
