Spadoni Family
This collection was created for the Spadoni Family.
A name of Italian origin, Spadoni comes from the Spadone, a long, battle sword. The family has no genuine crest, as historical research indicates the Spadoni were merchants, farmers and educators.
I’ve based this design on the sword, as the central focus.
Framing the sword are chamomile sprigs. Chamomile grows cheerfully, and plentifully, in Tuscany. My branch of the Spadoni family originates in Toscana. On my first trip to Italy, a great-great auntie was giving a tour of a Spadoni family farm. She spoke no English. I spoke very little Italian, but the language of the garden is transcendent. She walked me through, lovingly touching and naming herbs and flowers. I vividly recall her plucking a bit of chamomile, and handing it to me.
The hounds flank this design, as my father, Nonno and great uncles were hunters. Their hounds of choice were German Shorthairs. I have found memories that include generations of affectionate, hard-working, sleek dogs.
Last, the field is of green and yellow, the colors of Spadoni Brothers Inc., Gig Harbor Washington, USA. 3 generations of my family derived their livelihoods, and built a community, from the business founded by my Nonno and his brothers.
