Puvis de Chavannes, Fantasy, 1866

Designs inspired by a beautiful dreamlike painting by French artist Pierre Puvis de Chavannes. The name of the painting is Fantasy (La Fantaisie) and it was completed in 1866. The picture shows a female figure, perhaps a muse, using a flowery vine to lasso a winged horse or Pegasus, a symbol of imagination. A youth is sitting in the grass, picking flowers for a wreath. This activity may be implying a sensitivity to beauty. The setting is idyllic, a verdant wooded landscape and some distant fading mountains in the background. Suitable for anyone interested in the art of Pierre Puvis de Chavannes and the Symbolist movement. Also a great choice for all of us daydreamers!
