I believe it was unfinished because Mary's robe was left black undercoat without its finished thin coats of expensive Lapis Lazuli blue transparent glaze lightened with titanium white. I took it upon myself to give it the missing dark blue finish coat myself on computer. Later, after seeing the brighter blue Botticelli used on a similar painting of same date, I re-colorized again to try to match the look with greater contrast which I think cinched it. I offer all three versions here: black, dark blue, and brighter blue. I hope you love these.
