Cherokee Wolf & Coyote - Waya

Many tribes view the coyote figure as a trickster. He demonstrates the dangers of negative behaviors such as greed, recklessness, and arrogance. By others he's regarded as a hero who teaches, creates, and helps humans. The coyote is also known as a master of disguise who seeks to fulfill his own needs at the expense of others. He is a creature of both foolishness and intelligence. Most Cherokee speakers use the word waya interchangeably when referring to either the wolf or the coyote.
