Art Nouveau

The Art Nouveau period is inspired by the organic curvy lines and stylized forms from nature, sometimes mixing in lovely but down-to-earth images of men and women. It was considered a reaction against the academic art, eclecticism and historicism of 19th century architecture and decoration. Some well-known artists are Alpohonse Mucha and William Morris. Many Art Nouveau and Arts and Crafts motifs appear in architectural items, such as mantles and doors.
