This striking graphic pays homage to one of the most celebrated icons of American railroading: the Southern Pacific GS-4 "Daylight." The Southern Pacific GS-4 (General Service/Golden State) was a streamlined 4-8-4 "Northern" type steam locomotive built by the Lima Locomotive Works in 1941. Known as the "Most Beautiful Train in the World," the GS-4 was famous for its vibrant "Daylight" livery of orange, red, and black.
